Mediterranean Scollars

I sail the Mediterranean through time and places, sometimes even on a small boat admiring the Phoenicians, but mostly in my mind. This blog  is my Museum – Library – Meeting place as perhaps was the Ancient Library of Alexandria. The Internet Arcade is a conjunction where personal archetypes resonate jointly with the collective ones. It is also where linear time is almost meaningless. Accordingly, fiction and reality connect and influence each other.

At Oranim College, where I teach we just had a very interesting visit of  a few members from the University of Malta. They traveled around Israel, and we shared ideas about education in a multicultural society, trying to collaborate in different ways. This visit stirred my imagination of connections between schollrs around the  Mediterranean sharing ideas then and now.

It sent me  back to leaf through a book I love: Phoenicians Secrets, Sanford Holst, Santorini Books, 2011, p.84. According to this writer, the Phoenicians were in  a unique contact with the Maltese:

The attraction was not trade. This quiet  island seemed to have become their refuge, their place of peace and rest on the long voyages around the Mediterranean a place to revive not just the body but the spirit in these awe- inspiring temples…..They called the land Malet, which ment “refuge”.

Sure enough in Hebrew the root m.l.t –  means to run for one’s life…

As my artistic ongoing project to revive the memory of the lost library is costantly on my mind – I gave our guests a few ostracons to take home with them.

The first one is already mapped  at Mound Hacker’s world map.

I was strolling around the Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto. It was a book market day. I noticed a booklet with Japanese text and Western calculations.
