Kyoto nests in a grid of streets encompassed by green mountain slopes.
In spite of the ancient grid , I got lost every day.
It was hard to know if I am heading south or east – the horizon felt the same as at the middle of the sea; 360* of a round horizon of mountains and trees.
I thought it was only my problem; I found out that even locals lose their way in Kyoto.
So I decided to surrender and enjoy this state of mind.

Kyoto is surrounded by mountains on 3 sides. Only the south has no mountains. If you are ever lost, just remember that simple fact.
