Mound Hacker: Intervening in the time line of mounds-thoughts about ceramic remains

My Arab neighbours from Manshiya Zabda, sell ceramic pots. They possess the memory of  various Mediterranean traditions. On another part of this site there are vases from the far east. This reminds me that Israel was always a cross road of climates, cultures, and traditions.

If you stroll into the field of ceramic vases you will also find many ceramic shards. The weather and time grants them with patina.

Sometimes, it is difficult  for me, not an archaeologist, to know the difference between one tiny fragment to a real archaeological find I see at Caesarea beach. Nevertheless, I see them as gold mines, they are actual treasures holding the spirit of the past.

They inspire my daydreaming going back in time and history.

Therefore, I pick them up and transform them into keys to the Ancient Alexandrian Library.

As a part of my current project of Intervening in the time line of actual Tell [mounds] – I will  spread them around the Mediterranean, as seeds of my ideas concerning knowledge, libraries and humanity.

You are welcome to follow Blog as artwork and perhaps find one for your own art collection or daydreaming.

  1. Dear Nona,
On my balcony in Tel Aviv, there’s a big ficus plant that has been here since over a decade now. a remaining sign of a previous tenant. it had a beautiful ceramic pot, but over the years the roots tore through it and for a long time now it was all holding together only on a brim, wrapped around with old gaffer tame that has already lost all power after years of rain and sun.
so two days ago i finally transferred it into a new big blue plastic container (half a barrel my dad found at the scout’s yard near their house). As i was taking the old pot apart, transferring the ficus into its new home (mamash tu be’shvat!) and later smashing the ceramic parts to bits, so that they would fit into a trash bag, i was thinking of you…
    🙂
    enjoy the voyage…
    Amit
